Huawei usually does not launch many smartphones in a year, at least that kind of fast brand like Xiaomi, Samsung or Realme do not. The company has so far launched the Huawei P30 Series and Y9 (2019) in India. On Thursday, Huawei added Y9 Prime 2019 to the portfolio of his phone in India. In order to compete with new phones such as Realme X (review), Oppo K3 and Galaxy A50 (review), Huawei needed a phone with some trendy features like pop-up camera and triple rear camera, both come with Y9 Head 2019.
The price of Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is Rs 15,990 in India. This single comes in 4GB + 128GB storage configuration and will be available on Amazon India from August 7th. Huawei plans to sell the Y9 Prime 2019 through retail stores and with the help of Micromax, the two brands have recently announced a partnership.
On the occasion of the launch event, I spent some time with Y9 Prime 2019 and here is my initial impression.
The moment you grab the Y9 Prime, you can feel its size and weight despite the company’s claim that it is compact and slim. The handset measures 163.5×77.3×8.8 mm and weighs 196.8 grams, which makes it slightly thicker and heavier than what Realme X calls it. But then it seems appropriate when you consider the fact that Y9 Prime 2019 provides a larger battery and a larger display. .
The Y9 Prime has a 3D panel at the back that is plastic. It doesn’t feel very premium when you grab it and feel the rear panel, but the phone offers a unique dual tone finish to it, reminding one of the Pixel phones. That being said, it is not clear or different on Y9 Prime 2019. This phone has been introduced in Emerald Green and Sapphire Blue colors. The green model that I checked offers two colors which are split right below the fingerprint sensor. Under the average lighting system, it was difficult to separate the two colors inside the house, and I think the renders have done more justice than the actual product.
The curved panel makes the phone easy to catch up and the glossy panel will attract some smugness on the way. The rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is well placed and easy to reach. On the right side of the frame are the Power button and Volume keys, which are re-placed well. Y9 Prime 2019 also has Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack and single bottom firing speaker on the bottom.
Coming to the display, the Y9 Prime features an edge-to-edge screen with slim bezels on the top and sides. Apart from the chin, there is nothing else that will distract you while looking at the screen. There is no footpath or hole-punch cutout since moving to the selfie camera pop-up system.
Huawei Y9 Prime has a 6.59-inch FHD + LCD full view display with 91 percent of the screen, with body ratio and 391 ppi. The display looks quite bright indoors, but I was only able to test it under poor indoor lighting. Color reproduction is decent, but you will not get it saturated or deep as you would on the AMOLED display on Realme X or Galaxy A50. In my limited time with the device, I could not test how the display handles media content and games.
Huawei is calling Y9 Prime 2019 a “pop up king” which sounds a bit much. There are some pop-up camera phones that have already been launched in India in the segment, so Huawei is still catching up. The pop-up mechanism takes about 1 second to rise, which is very fast but not the fastest we’ve seen. A pop-up camera on Realme X, for example, rises in about 0.7 seconds.
The Y9 Prime 2019 is powered by a 2.2Ghz octa-core Kirin 710F chipset paired with a 4G RAM. The Kirin 710F is similar to the regular Kirin 710, but may offer slightly better power efficiency. It would be nice to see the 6GB or 8GB RAM option, but Huawei has kept it 4GB now and it would be interesting to see if it is enough for daily use. Unfortunately, we can only find out after spending more time with the device.
On Y9 Prime 2019 Triple Camera Setup is a upgrade of dual cameras on Y9 (2019). In addition to the 16-megapixel main camera and 2-megapixel depth sensor, Y9 Prime 2019 also has an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera that will allow you to capture a large area to capture a big topic As if a monument is called. A large group of buildings or people. The main camera supports AI scene detection and is also equipped with a 6P lens to help capture bright photos. The front camera is a 16 megapixel selfie sensor that comes with Ai Scene Detection.
Finally, the Y9 Prime 2019 has a 4,000mAH battery, which should be good enough to last a full day and then some depending on usage. However, we could not test battery performance in our limited time with the device. Sadly, Y9 Prime 2019 does not support fast charging, which is disappointed with considering Fast Charging at the same or lower prices for phones like Realme X, Realme 3 Pro, Oppo K3 and Vivo Z1 Pro.
Based on a brief conversation with Y9 Prime 2019, the phone looks like a very solid update to Y9 (2019) starting this year. It looks like a 2019 smartphone, which has a lookal display, a pop-up selfie camera and a triple-rear camera. There is also a bigger battery to back up and its price seems to be a good mid-range processor. Whether or not the company implemented these features well is a thing that we can only know after spending more time with the phone. For now, the Y9 Prime 2019 Realime X, Oppo K3 and the Galaxy A50 fit into 20,000 rupees.
